Vascular Surgery
-
Vascular surgery covers a range of surgical procedures undertaken on arteries veins and the lymphatic system. The most important part is to reconstruct, unblock or bypass arteries that are blocked by atherosclerosis.
These precision procedures, restore blood flow to organs of the body helping to reduce sudden death, preventing strokes, restoring movement and reducing the risk of amputation.
A further important role is to manage aortic aneurysms, which, when these rupture, can rapidly lead to death.
Advances in techniques and technology over the last three decades have meant it is possible to carry out a greater number of these limb, organ and life-saving procedures, even on more complex patients.

Through a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach with our Radiologists and Vascular Laboratory the correct investigations are undertaken in a timely fashion.
We offer:
Doppler ultrasound: this allows us to see your blood flow within arteries and veins in real time.
CT angiogram: we take x-ray images from several different angles to build a 3D picture of what is happening inside your body
MR angiogram: this allows us to create detailed images especially including the soft tissues
Nuclear Medicine:
PET
Lymphocyntogram
Formal angiogram or venogram: If there is doubt from the non-invasive imaging techniques this allows us to see inside your blood vessels definitively with the additional ability to replicate movements that compress vessels.
IVUS or intravascular ultrasound: This allows us to see inside your blood vessels more precisely during the time of performing either an angiogram or venogram.

We may offer:
Best medical therapy - Blood thinners: this helps prevent blood clots
Endovascualr therapy using wires, catheters, balloons and stents: We are able to hold your artery or vein open. This is a minimally invasive procedure
Surgery: To reroute your blood using your own vein or a synthetic graft to bypass the blocked section causing the pain.
Hybrid Surgery: Using both Endovascular and conventional Surgery to improve flow of blood.
Thrombolysis: A minimally invasive procedure to deliver clot-busting medicine directly to blood clots
Other specialised treatments in relation to specific conditions.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: Botox, First Rib resection and scalenectomy
Hyperhidrosis: Botox, Thoracic Sympathectomy
Venous interventions such as EVLT, Venefit or Glue
